Leila El Hakim | Tapisserie Mosaïque
Leila El-Hakim was born in Egypt, where she learned French at the Cours Morin. She studied French literature at the University of Cairo and this went to the Sorbonne in Paris for a Ph.D. on the French Jean Gireadoux. She also wrote poems in French and later worked for the French programme of the Egyptian broadcasting service. Her programs, “Les chants du terroir” and “D’une Pierre deux coups” caught the attention of a large number of listeners, but it was the unforgettable “Noctures” – in which music and literature were freely and elegantly minded – that was her greatest success. To many, up to the present day, her name revives a voice. But it was her love of nature that guided her first steps in representative art. Her love of textiles did the rest.
