Both principals, Roy Leone and Jennifer Bloom Leone got their start working with design-build firms, Roy at Taylor Design Build in Tucson, Arizona and Jen at Peter Gluck and Partners in New York City. Roys background includes a B.Arch from the University of Arizona and work with Richardson Smith Architects and Resolution4Architecture. Jen received an Masters Architecture from Yale and Bachelor Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
Leone Design Studio philosophy, Our goal with all projects is to create an appropriate and provocative built response to a set of issues or problems, however large or small. We attempt to create enduring places for people that engage the senses and challenge the imagination, revealing the subtleties and beauty of the world around them. Our work is a collaborative and often exhilarating process that engages our clients and craftspeople in the quest to define and solve problems. It is a non-formulaic approach that succeeds through the simple tasks of listening and drawing, while breaking down the barriers between thinking and building.
Roy Leone bio, I am an architect because I love the process of making things. In making things (a house, office, table or whatever), I get a chance to learn more about the world and see things in a different way; even something Ive seen a million times before. I graduated from the University of Arizona with Bachelor of Architecture in 1995. I worked for Taylor Design Build in Tucson, Arizona, Richardson Smith Architects in Princeton, New Jersey and Resolution 4 Architecture in New York, New York. In 2002 I founded Roy Leone Design Studio, and moved the office to DUMBO in 2003. Jen joined me in 2004 as the studio expanded. In 2004 Dwell TV featured the McCollum Loft during their first season. I am a registered architect in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and am accredited by NCARB.
Jen Bloom Leone bio, My education encouraged me to consider my environment as a vital source of inspiration for built form, and to use architecture as the lens through which our environment reveals itself back to us over the course of time. My training encouraged me to consider how to translate these ideas into built form.
I received my Masters of Architecture in 1998 from Yale University, and my BA in Environmental Design from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. A traveling fellowship from Yale allowed me to pursue research in India before going to work for Peter Gluck and Partners, a pioneering design / build firm, where I was afforded the opportunity not only to design several exciting buildings, but to become a licensed general contractor in order to build them. A temporary but successful detour in 2004 to give Roy some temporary assistance led to our decision to join forces, and we have been collaborating ever since.
Craig Adams about bio, I believe in the basic principal that Architecture can make a persons life better, but follow a deep rigor that struggle of design can only accomplish this goal with an understanding of construction and client. Though form and concept may root themselves in many things, to me they are always evolving. This ever-evolving development is what brings benefit. My journey has been that of simultaneous education and experience. It started with an AS in Architectural and Civil Engineering from Purdue University while Project Managing and Estimating large scale projects for a general contractor. Then came my BA of Architecture from NJIT and chances to push design in many professional competitions, while freelancing in different design fields. This was followed by an MA in Civil Engineering from NJIT and the chance to complete a few built projects of my own. Finally resting this journey, I began working with LDS.
