Hempfield Township, Mercer County, Pa - Home
Hempfield Township is located on the North, South and East of the Greenville Borough. Currently the Township has a population of 4,004 according to the last U.S. Census. Of those, 1202 reported earned income in 2006. Assessed valuations of land and property are just over 52 million dollars which puts the township 3rd in the county behind the Cities of Hermitage and Sharon. Millage is 5.17 mills which at approximately $45,000.00 per mill brings the township around $245,000.00 annually. Residential Property Taxes in the Township were raised 1/2 a mill in 2009 for the first time since 1980.
We have a growing Volunteer Fire Department with membership approaching 35, a full-time police department with 6 full-time officers and 2 part-time officers, and full-time Public Works/Maintenance crew of 3 that maintains and repairs 27.75 miles of roads, takes care of the maintenance on all Township machines and vehicles, and maintains approximately 10 miles of sanitary sewer lines. We also have two full-time administrators that run the day-to-day township affairs.
