Emily Granger - Harp
Emily Granger received her Bachelor’s of Music in Harp Performance from The Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where she was a student of renowned harpist, Susann McDonald. At an early age, Emily attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, where she worked with Dr. Lynne Aspnes and Joan Raeburn Holland. She later returned as the Assistant Harp Instructor in 2008. This led her to the University of Michigan, where she became the principal harpist of the University Symphony Orchestra and the Michigan Pops Orchestra.
As a soloist, Emily has been featured as a guest artist at the Charterhouse International Music Festival in Godalming, United Kingdom, with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Northland Symphony Orchestra and Clay Center Arts Council. Emily was a finalist for the Young Artists Harp Competition in 2008, was awarded the 2007 Eastern Music Festival Young Artists Award, and First Prize at the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale in 2008. She is the former Principal Harpist of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and Carmel Symphony Orchestra where she held those positions from 2008-2010. During the summers, Emily has attended the Indiana University Summer Music Festival (2009) and the National Orchestral Institute (2010). She toured with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra (2010) premiering Carlos Rivera’s Adagio for Harp and Winds.
Emily has studied and worked with world renowned harpists such as Naoko Yoshino, Isabelle Perrin, Patty Masri-Fletcher, Nancy Allen, Judy Loman, Ieuan Jones and Skaila Kanga. She has also had the privilege of working with many great conductors such as Cliff Colnot, Larry Rachleff, Mario Venzago, Giancarlo Guerrero, David Lockington, Arthur Fagen and David Effron.
As an advocate for new music, Emily is part of a Harp and Saxophone duo with alto saxophonist Zachary Shemon of the Prism Quartet. Together, they have commissioned and premiered new works for the duo. They presented the world premiere of Mark Olivero's Tanox for Harp, Alto Saxophone and Electonics at the North American Saxophone Alliance in 2010. Emily has also been featured as a soloist with the Indiana University New Music Ensemble.
Emily is currently pursuing her Master’s of Music in Orchestral Studies at the Chicago College of the Performing Arts where she studies with Chicago Symphony’s Principal Harpist, Sarah Bullen.
