Hannah Rumsby : Sensory Garden, In The Sensory Garden I reflect on the relationship between the natural environment and human well-being, and through my photographs, I attempt to describe the activity of gardening as a life affirming contact with nature.
The subject of my story is gardener, George Wilcockson, who expresses an intense sensitivity to the natural world. His love of which, has become increasingly acute as he has lost his sight to a rare neurological disorder.
A trained horticulturist, George is a founder member of Meristems Allotment Project in Nottinghamshire, where these photographs were made. The project is supported by the charity Thrive, which works to promote the benefits of gardening for people with disabilities throughout the U.K.
