“Smile and Say Cheese”! Wow! That has got to be the most unoriginal, boring, run of the mill catch line in the industry. However, I took this phrase and a small idea and transformed it into a very successful business. While not possessing the flair of much larger companies, it has kept me in business and garnered me critical acclaim from many of my counterparts in the industry.
Hi. My name is Jerrard Mack. I am the creator and owner of Flashefx, and I want to be your photographer. My career began with the U.S. Air Force. I left home at seventeen years of age and never looked back. I told my mother I wanted to travel and see the world. But most important of all, I had a burning desire to capture it all on film and bring it home to share. That same desire kindled the flame from which Flashefx was birthed. I left home armed with a Kodak 110, two rolls of film, a lot of enthusiasm and a good eye for photos. Despise not small beginnings. My early beginnings led to great success. Today I own my own business and I use the latest cutting edge equipment. It wasn’t always so.
My passion started in front of the camera. I had always pictured myself as a highly paid male supermodel. There was never a time when I didn’t wear the latest fashions, and I was more than willing to pose for anyone brandishing a camera. This was fine for a period of time. But as time progressed, I began to tire of doing the same poses again and again. I started creating scenes in which to pose. No matter how elaborate I would always create a scene or improve the surroundings to get just one really good photo. I became so good at it people sought me out to create the scenes and moods for their photos as well.
Well it didn’t take long. I quickly made the transition from being in front of the camera to being behind the camera. I still do both periodically, but my primary desire these days is to capture the photo.
Determined to make this photographic passion work for me, I began investing in photo equipment: first a Kodak Disc camera, then a Polaroid Instant Camera, and finally, my very first compact 35mm camera. Let me say right now I am glad that technology has kept pace with society. Those cameras were fine for their time, but I am glad for what I have today.
I have gone on to bigger and better things since the early days. I have been featured in several publications, journals, magazines and websites. My own publications also showcase my work. I will work hard all day under harsh conditions for a single award winning photo. I have the same burning desire today that I had twenty years ago as a young man.
