James Fairweather
I am passionate about collaboration and creation, and love working with people to deliver great products. My undergraduate education focused on physics, mathematics and core engineering subjects. My interests lie at the intersection of physical engineering, computer science, electronics, and controls. As a result, I chose to study mechatronics at a graduate level at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and received my Ph.D. from the school in 1998. While in school I worked as a studio assistant for George Rickey. In this capacity I worked as both a draftsman and fabricator (welding, grinding, and assembly). I gained invaluable experience travelling globally to install sculptures.After graduation in 1998, I took a position with Therics, a small biomedical startup company, where I worked to develop printheads, control systems, and software to facilitate the fabrication of pharmaceuticals and tissue scaffolds using a patented three-dimensional printing process. In 1999, I left Therics and joined Pitney Bowes, where I have held a number of positions of increasing technical accountability. I was named a Senior Fellow in 2008. In 2008 I took on a management role as Director of Embedded Software Solutions, with functional, financial and program delivery accountability for embedded software, core product application software, and cryptographic key management systems. In this role, I managed a twelve million dollar functional budget and a resource staff of ~95 people across multiple geographies. My management team and I were accountable for the quality, cost and delivery of software across the product line. A key accomplishment achieved by the team was the launch of the Connect+ Customer Communication Series (http://www.pb.com/connectplus/).
