THE ART OF SHINN
CHRISTIE SHINN is a self-taught artist based in both Hawaii and Canada, depending on the season. Although Shinn is most recognized for her surf-inspired paintings and exhibitions in Hawaii, her illustrative work has been seen in variety of commercial projects with corporate clients such as Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, Shreducation (Disney Channel Documentary), Sattelyte Wakeskates and Blue Mountain Resort. Shinn's bright cartoony style is all-at-once adorable and dark. She has a fondness for blending the child-like with the jaded, the familiar with the mysterious and the organic with the artificial. Shinn's work is informed by her personal obsessions including: thrift stores, the occult, surfing/snowboarding, science fiction, vintage album covers, Disney World, ancient civilizations, the profound weirdness of dreams, travel, long drives, coffee and generally living the life of an artist.
