It means we devote the time to understand the strategy and monitor portfolio construction regularly so we can speak to investors candidly about the strategy without intruding in the Portfolio Managers’ time until the moment to “close”. By creating such a close relationship with a small number of clients, a hedge fund manager is able to reduce or eliminate most of the fixed costs associated with an in-house business development team, yet get broader scope and reach across the global investor community – in other words, they get more for less. From crafting the optimal message for client firms and their strategies, to targeting the right institutional investors, and developing the tactical plan of attack for reaching those investors, clients will feel as if we are working solely for them.
