The Government Higher Secondary school Chittar has been established as Primary school in 1940 with the land given by Puthenpeedikayil Palamoottil Kathanar Plathanath family. The school started functioning in a small building with only two class rooms .Later it was taken up by Bethany Ashram due to lack of teachers and government aids. In 1964, having realized the condition of the school. It was handed over to government for One Chakkram. It was in the year 1956 L.P School Koothttukulam was upgraded as U.P school and four year later in 1960 it was again upgraded as a High school. All these activities were led by Sri. Meera Shib a native of Pathanamthittta, who had been the head master during that period.
