PACT For Learning
As classroom teachers, we know that parental involvement in a child’s learning,
especially for beginning readers and writers dramatically affects progress. Many parents
want to help, but they do not know how to be most effective. Our combined decades of
experience at the primary level convince us of the great need for some way to bridge the
gap between desire-to-help and the ability-to-help.
PACT provides a simple, consistent method that is easy for parents to implement
under the direction of the classroom teacher or Reading Resource Teacher. It involves
true teamwork between the parent, child and teacher and, in so doing, establishes
positive dispositions toward the future. We believe that the skills developed through
involvement in PACT are transferable, durable assets that continue to enhance
home-school cooperation at every level.
From the federal mandate, “No Child Left Behind” through the current emphasis on
district and state wide testing, the challenges to educator’s is clear at every level.
Schools need to improve performance despite the lean economic times. We believe that
PACT is part of the answer. It can help fill in the gap by providing an essential missing
piece – the parent component.
