18 Switchbacks hails from the Rocky Mountains surrounding Boulder, Colorado and had its beginnings as a rootsy, acoustic Americana group of musicians that quickly morphed into something much more than just another Colorado bluegrass outfit. Blending its member's influences of folk, rock, pop, jam, world music, jazz, and even country, 18 Switchbacks strives to present the idea that great music is more than just sticking to a specific style or genre. This band demonstrates a rare ability to know how and where to push each song to its limits, while approaching the music uniquely through each performance. The band's thick, rich vocal harmonies, an inspired and virtuosic rhythm section, and dark, gritty, sometimes hauntingly light and ethereal melodies, begin to describe why 18 Switchbacks has become a band not to be missed.
