Welcome to Josh Power Photography.
For a quick synopsis, Josh Power Photography specializes in event photography, ranging from small meetings to large festivals. I am based in Virginia Beach, and I primarily photograph the Hampton Roads area. I do enjoy traveling, though, as some events and festivals take me out of the area.

A typical “about me” section usually talks about things such as schooling, background, and awards. I am going to mention those things, but they are only a small piece of who I am.
I will begin by saying that my schooling did not teach me how to be a photographer. I have always enjoyed taking pictures, as many of us do, but seeing how beautiful my daughter was in the pictures I took of her and experiencing the feelings that I get when I see them really motivated me to start on this new journey with Josh Power Photography.
My education has trained me to be a music teacher and a school administrator. In the classroom, the most rewarding moments I have experienced were the ones when the student “got it.” Even if it was not in the classroom, we have all had those revelations in different situations in our lives. They are the moments where you smile and say “ohhhh….I get it!” Everything makes sense. For that split second (and hopefully longer), the world is at peace and everything is perfect.
Photographs have the ability to help us make sense of the world in the same manner. Have you ever looked at a photograph and had your heart skip a beat? Have you ever been so entranced by a photograph that you could not seem to take your eyes off of it? Has a photograph made you smile? Cry? Think? Hope? Has a photograph ever transported you to a moment from your past? Could you remember what everything smelled like or what song was playing in the background?
As a photographer, I am able to capture that split second for you to relive whenever you want. That moment is no longer a fleeting memory. Just as music is able to bring back memories and feelings and smells to us at any time, photographs have the power to do that as well. My goal in working with you is to provide you with those moments that you will be able to relive over and over again. I want you to be able to look at one of our photographs years from now and vividly recall every detail of that moment; the feelings, the smells, the emotions.
I enjoy capturing the actual images of the world, with as little manipulation (i.e., Photoshop) as possible. I like to share moments that have actually happened, instead of moments that have been produced with major editing.
Each time I take a picture, I am sharing a little piece of myself - how I view this wonderful world that we live in. Remember to take the time each day to actually see the world around you. If you have not had the time, please take the time to look through my photographs. They are only a small sample of what you may have missed (or simply want to experience).
