: Raven Studios Art :
Raven Studios Art represents the creative efforts of photographer Roger Dorband including his prints and published work. The site also includes his collaborations, including works published with author Ursula K. Le Guin. In addition to photographing the Northwest, his travels have led to creating bodies of photographs from Europe, Mexico, Egypt and India. His photographs are included in numerous private and corporate collections, and are in the collection of the Portland Art Museum.
A fellow artist once quipped that a photographer is a kind of “high-class tourist.” In assuming that mantle, when I’m working I don’t worry about whether I am “making art.” I walk and I photograph, making the best images I can in a given setting. I believe that if some love comes through in the pursuit it will bring grace to the effort and relevance to the work. It is also my firm belief that in the panoply of the visual arts, photography can promulgate and foster humanity’s highest cultural and aesthetic values, and is best able to define who we are.
