Born in Istanbul, the artist was accepted to the Bilkent University College of Music and Performing Arts in 1989 with a full scholarship. He studied piano with Martin Berkofsky and Namik Sultanov and studied counterpoint and harmony with Sami Hatipoglu. In 1992 he continued his education in Vienna Conservatory and studied piano with Gerhard Geretschlaeger. He studied composition and music theory with Ivan Erod and chamber music with Avadis Kuyumciyan at the Vienna Music Academy. The artists that he was influenced by and worked with are; composer Jorge Sanchez Chiong (he performed this composers’ piece “Reflections of Invisible”), saxophone player Nicholas Simion (Polish Miles Davis Jazz Festival, Tribute to Charles Mingus), violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja (Vienna Festival), violinist Tomo Keller (Yehudi Menuhin “Live Music Concerts” Germany tour-also in this tour Mr. Tirpan premiered his piece “Reflections” for the 1999 earthquake victims of Turkey.), violinist Daniel Pergamenchikov (International Davos Young Concert Artists Music Festival), soprano Kristiane Kaiser ( Schleswig Holstein Festival). His first album “Elvira Madigan” Mozart’s D Major 21. Piano Concerto K.V. 467 was released in November 1998 recorded with the Vidin Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Nayden Todorov. The CD was released with M.M.O label. The festivals he attended during this period can be listed as; Homage to Richard Staruss Meiningen Opera Orchestra Sef Kyrill Petrenko Mozart A Major Piano Concerto Nr. 24 Silver Bay Summer Festival USA Canada tour (75th anniversary celebrations of the Turkish Republic) C.R.R First Piano Festival Istanbul and Jeunesse Bach Festival 2000 Vienna When he met and started to work with Brazilian percussionist and composer Fernando Paiva, he was introduced to this very rich musical culture. Mr. Tirpan and Mr Paiva released their first album “Santos De Casa” one year after they met. This album was chosen album of the year by the “Jazz Magazine”. Together they worked in Fernando Paiva Group in Birdland (Vienna), Jazz Festival (Graz), Jazz over Villach, Meck a Frick (Sweeden), Porgy & Bess (Vienna). In 2002, inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 book, Mr. Tirpan composed his musical “HEARTS” and was chosen the best musical composed in the past few years in German speaking countries by the “Musical Coctail”. In 2004 he directed the Scherzo Summer Festival. With the influence of the Figaro’s Wedding Opera theme written by Mozart in Klagenfurt, Mr. Tirpan composed his second musical “FIGARO” in a jazz style and attracted lot of attention by the audience. One year later the piece was purchased by Bloch & Erben and was performed all over Germany. In 2005 his album “My Red Color” which is a collection of his works was released in Europe with the Fishtank label and was shown one of the best collections of works in Austria. In 2006 Pat Metheny Groups’ drummer Antonio Sanchez, Greg Osbys’ bassist Juan Herreros has accompanied him in his album “My Green Color”. In May 9th 2007, due to the Mevlana year he composed the Mevlana-Alchemist Symphonic Poem. This piece was successfully performed by Vienna classical Players, Sertab Erener, Ney player Burcu Sonmez, and choreographer Ziya Azazi. In 2007 with the “Painted on Water” project he worked with Dave Weckl, Trilok Gurtu, and Al di Meola and performed with Sertab Erener and Fahir Atakoglu in Carnegie Hall and Kodak Theatre. His next project is to record and release an album of Friedrich Gulda’s solo piano pieces. No matter what genre he focuses, the insightful and sophisticated musical journey of this promising musician will have much to offer to those who find in music the power to discover their very core and reach out to the world. The artist lives mostly in Vienna and Istanbul.
