Woodwind Instrument Making and Repairing Course at Newark
Woodwind Instrument Making and Repair is a 3-Year full-time course (first year is a level 2 course, second and third years level 3). This Consists of 36 weeks per year divided into three terms. Each week comprises approximately 19 taught hours with access to computers and the library in the College Learning Centre during other periods. Only 8 new students are usually admitted each September to the course. All classes take place in one well-appointed workshop with first, second and third-year students working together as a combined group. Classes usually consist of a mix of nationalities. At present we have Korean, French, German, Australian and Spanish students, in addition to British. The repairing covers all the woodwind family from Piccolo to Saxophone. Repairs cover the range from basic replacement of pads to complete overhauls involving advanced repair techniques. Students will make a complete Boehm system Clarinet from basic raw materials.
