Sama Sri Desamanya M.Shafi Raheem , Member of the Western Provincial Council, is also the Chief Organizer of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress ( SLMC) for Gampaha District , Negombo constituency He is chairman of development Board and representative of the zonal education monitoring committee.
The Honorable Western PC member Shafi Raheem was born at Periyamulla in Negombo on 20 th June 1971. He received his primary education at the Al-Hilal Central College in Negombo. And after passing the 5 th standard he continued his education at the Bambalapitiya Hindu College. During his Young days itself, while at school, he was an excellent speaker and debater.
During his young days he served as Chairman of the Negombo Branch of the National Islamic welfare Association. He is a businessman dealing with footwear and is now owner of a footwear manufacturing factory. He never wanted to enter politics but due to compulsion from a close political associate, he contested 2004 Provincial Council election in Gampaha district.
He was elected as SLMC member of the Western Pc, from Gampaha district, with large majority preferencial votes. The significant aspect of his political career is that he is the only SLMC Muslim member representing Gampaha district. During his short political career he has undertaken and performed many services for the development of the district such as
