I began backpacking into wilderness, in Yosemite's Tenaya Canyon, when I was ten. I went from simple, Kodak box cameras in high school to a twin lens Rolleiflex in college (and, later, a single lens Rollei 6006). Mostly, I used a Nikon FM2 and, fairly recently, began scanning the film. This year I began using a Nikon D5000 (digital camera).
Sometimes I'm asked if I "manipulate" my images. I do, often to make the image better match what I recall photographing or to recapture more of the complete experience I had. When one's breath is taken away by beauty in nature, it's more than just a visual perception; more than "mere" perception is happening. A two-dimensional photograph can't recreate that but only suggest it. Still, I don't adjust much more than darkness or brightness, color hue and saturation, and contrast to make my images better approximate what I experienced.

To see the images, click either on the photo representing the gallery or on the name of the gallery. Once in a gallery, click on any of the thumbnail images on the left to see it enlarged in the box to the right. You can make it even larger by clicking on "Large" in the small box that pops up in the right side of the image. In order to move to another gallery, click "Landscapes" in upper left. That will return you to the page showing you your choice of galleries.

Jim’s interest in photography started in high school with a used 35mm camera. Over the years he developed his outdoor and portrait photography skills doing his own film development and printing. Jim upgraded to medium format cameras for his wedding and outdoor portrait business in Pennsylvania. He learned to appreciate the “moment in time” ability of photography and the impact that it can have.
Jim considers film photography as 50% skill and 50% luck - being in the right place at the right time. Digital photography is still 50% skill, 30% luck and 20% in understanding how to manipulate digital images with computer software. Jim shoots in color and fine tunes his black and white images with computer software. Jim only uses fine art papers and archival inks with his limited edition fine art prints.
Jim is a great fan of Ansel Adams’ black and white work. He does not try to emulate him but utilized a revised Zone system in his work. Jim chose to enter the world of digital photography when technological improvements narrowed the gap between film and digital image quality. He uses many of the standard darkroom techniques of dodging and burning with digital images similar to his black and white print techniques with film.

Welcome to my photo web page. I have been behind a camera from many perspectives for a long time. I began with video taping my children's athletic sports and then to working in the beauty industry with top hairdressers and makeup artists. Most of the time I was presenting work to be photographed and then it occured to me, I want control of the camera, and so began my quest to take pictures that people want. My passion is in photographing light and shadows where ever they occur, including flowers, wild life and architecture. I also love taking athletic photos. Welcome to my site.
I enjoy photography as a hobby and try to explore the many facets of photography whenever possible. Taking a photo is in essence stopping time and preserving a memory.
Since going digital in year 2000, I've taken more than 100,000 digital photos. I have also experimented with various cameras and lenses. I find that there is no camera system that is perfect for all situations or types of photography. Each system has its own pros and cons. It is up to the photographer to get the best out of the system.
If a photo "speaks" to me and makes me linger on it for a while, it would be considered a good photo to me. It is not about how sharp the subject is, how accurate the colors are or what equipment was used to capture the image.
With this site, I hope to share some of my memories with you. I endeavour to update the site by adding more photos as frequently as possible. All critiques, comments and suggestions are much appreciated.

We provide photography services to parents and teams in the Southern Tier of NY State.
Parents can cheer on their child in the sports they play without having to worry about staying behind the camera, potentially missing the big play.
Our galleries can be as open or secure as is needed. Wide open makes the gallery searchable on the net so those researching your team or athlete can find the images. The most secure requires the user to know the url to the gallery and have the password, which is great for parents that want to e-mail the gallery to friends and family only.
