Lance R. Wilson has had a lifelong passion for photography. His concentration in the wildly diverse areas of Wedding and Nature photography was heavily influenced by his early years in San Diego. His father, a TV news director and anchorman, provided the guidance and foundation for his photojournalistic style of wedding photography. Working part time at the San Diego Zoo for nearly eight years allowed him the opportunity to watch some of the great San Diego Zoo photographers work as they captured the beauty of nature and the unique personalities of the animals.

My passions for the photograph started at an early age. I remember watching old black and white movies with family and being absorbed by the cinematography by some of the greats. The films of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Wells, the way they used the stark contrast of black and white to tell the story set the stage for how I approach my photography. Each click of the camera should mean something.
Taking a photo is more than just capturing an image. I believe it's about capturing a singular moment that reveals a story and awakens emotions. The glare in someone's eye, the position of a person's body, the unspoken language of their movement all help bring the story to the picture. When someone looks at my photography I want them to see not just the photo but to also see a story.
The services I provide are portraits of children, adults, families and pets; from traditional to themed dramatic portraits. There is no one right portrait look for everyone. Everybody has different tastes, hobbies, sports, activities and the sessions I create reflect that dynamic. I also take sessions with groups, events and for engagements. Each session starts with a consultation to discuss the direction we envision the shoot headed, the location, the wardrobe and the make-up if necessary. When the logistics are finalized then it's time to schedule the shoot. The locations range from the studio to the beach and anywhere in between. As long as we're able to shoot there we'll get the shots we envisioned.

As far back as I can remember, photographs have always appealed to me by viewing them or taking them. Viewing the world from behind the lens has given me an appreciation for life around me and the details we all seem to miss in our hectic schedules.
I was raised in the beautiful Slocan Valley of British Columbia till age 18 when college pulled me to Lethbridge in Southern Alberta. In Lethbridge, I worked, married, raised 2 children and found my love for photography there with the help of some wonderful friends and a great photo club. After 23 years in southern Alberta, I returned to my roots in the Slocan Valley with my husband Ron and 2 children, James and Alaya.
The images that I take are from my heart and firmly believe that they are treasures of time. These images stop time and can be revisited time and again which in turn rekindles the memories we all love to carry in our minds.

My background is in Photojournalism.
I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures. After that, I spent about 6 years working for various TV stations in North and South Carolina. Then I worked another 12 years at Duke University in their video production department....still loyal to my HEELS!
While working in the news field, I earned my EMT certification and worked my way up through becoming a paramedic.
Currently, I am a full-time paramedic instructor at Johnston Community College.
I still enjoy shooting pictures, mainly of my kid's school and competitive athletic events.
I freelance some of the pictures to the local newspapers.
I have also had a number of people ask about getting my pictures, so after much consideration, decided to set up this site. The research I did showed Smugmug to be one of the top and most reliable websites for sharing and buying pictures.
My intent is not to get rich, but simply cover my costs with maybe a little left over to enjoy my hobby of shooting...pictures and my firearms.

Welcome to Carrier Photography. I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember. One of my first cameras was a Minolta X-700. I have captured a lot of great moments with that camera. In today's digital age I can share some of my images with you.
I enjoy shooting many different venues, including weddings and portraits as well as outdoors.
