One Australian woman's pledge to support an Indian orphan through her childhood has blossomed into a much larger project to build a school and orphanage in a poor and arid region of India. 'The Monalisa Project' is an Australian-based grassroots non-profit charity group supporting the living and education expenses of orphan children in the village of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, in the northern region of India. The project also raises money to fund the building of a school and orphanage. The Monalisa Project web-site offers information about the project, photos of the school and orphanage construction which give insight into the lives of the supported children, reports on fundraising activities, living conditions at the orphanage and correspondence between participants.
