Ancient Roman Weapons and Roman Armor
The early Roman weapons were based on Greek and Etruscan originals. They have also adopted other weapons designs from other cultures they conquered such as Celts and Carthaginians. The sword was a prime example of this. The first designs of the gladius (gladius means sword in Latin) were based on the Greek swords. The gladius existed in three varieties such as Mainz gladius, Fulham gladius and the Pompeii gladius.
