גיא חבר חייל צהל נעדר מאז 17 אוגוסט 1997. נראה לאחרונה ברמת הגולן סמוך לגבול הסורי לבוש מדים,
מצויד בנשקו האישי, דיסקית ותעודת שבוי. לאחר שהחיפושים באזור לא העלו דבר החלה פעילות דיפלומטית מחוץ למדינת ישראל לסייע בהשגת מידע אודות הימצאו של גיא בסוריה. מדינת ישראל הציעה פרס כספי בסך 10 מליון דולר לכל המביא מידע על גיא.
