Tan Johnson
My name is Tantrance Johnson. I was born in Grenada, Mississippi. I am a resident of Miami-Dade County and have been since 1974. I am a proud product of the Dade County School system. In 1984, I graduated from Miami Killian Senior High School. After working a few odd jobs and completing my time in the Army National Guard and then the active duty Air Force, I continued my education at Miami-Dade Community College, earning an Associate's in Arts Degree in 1994. Today, the college is now known as Miami-Dade College. In 2006, I completed my Bachelor's Degree from Barry University. Being a young man raised by a single parent, I have had my growing pains. I watched my mother work double shifts on minimum wage jobs, all the while struggling in her studies, furthering her education in order to increase her earning ability and to better our family. She did that while teaching her children to value the family, respect others, to believe in God, and to work for the things you want out of life by earning it honestly. I have been a member of Glendale Missionary Baptist Church since 1980, when I joined with my mother, under the spiritual leadership of the late Reverend Joseph Coats. Reverend Coats taught me to love God, respect all religions and expressions of faith of others, to let my light shine by being willing to stand up for what I believe, and service to others is the highest form of worship. As a volunteer, I worked in District 118, doing constituent services for then Representative Daryl L. Jones. That was my introduction to state government. In 1992, I worked with him on his campaign when Hurricane Andrew changed the lives of many of us here in south Florida. Daryl stopped campaigning and began supplying the needs of people in the community. So I helped him help others. When he was elected to serve as senator, I worked with him as a support staff member to do constituent service. There are other people that have inspired me in my life, but these three are those who have motivated me to action. Vote for me on August 26, 2008 to represent south Florida, from Richmond Heights to Florida City in Tallahassee, on the issues that matter to us.
