Tanja Bos
Tanja Bos has lived in Washington, DC since 1989, but is originally from the Netherlands. She received her BFA from the Corcoran College of Art and an MFA from the University of the Arts. Tanja was surrounded by art when growing up in Europe, influenced by her mother who is a painter and sculptor in the Netherlands. In her paintings, Tanja expresses her artistic vision through color, transparency effects, shapes and textures. By experimenting with the interaction of colors and textures — through scraping, rubbing, diluting or enhancing the density of the paint — Tanja creates further depth and motion in her works of art. Her paintings are achieved using oil on canvas or oil on wood, sometimes adding another medium like wax or gesso.
Tanja also creates drawings that, while different from her paintings, share some similarities in the way texture is used to reveal dimension and depth. Her drawings use modular elements to capture an idea or narrative landscape. Though Tanja’s drawings focus less on color, she uses texture to create dynamic compositions in her work. Her drawings are made with black ink on acid-free paper as her medium.
