Npt Thread
In case you didn't know, there is a Unites States standard for threads that are used to join pipes and fittings. This standard is called The National Pipe Thread or Npt thread. Believe it or not, there are several different websites that list this kind of information just in case you may one day need to know. There are two different standards, one for a tapered thread (NPT) and one for a straight thread( NPS). The websites that list this information are typically chock full of wording that is hard to understand by those of us who don't work in the pipe fitting business. But in cases you do need to know, the taper rate for NPT threads is 1/16 and will be measured by the change in the diameter of the pipe thread over its distance. The taper is divided by a line in the middle and will produce an angle that will measure at 1.7899 degrees from the center of the middle line.
