Beneath The River Movie
In this vision of human falibiity, Evan and Sarah, a young couple isolated at Sarah's family owned cottage on a small private island, are struggling to exist 'off the grid' by committing petty robberies and spending their time making love and getting high. Evan, a troubled dreamer, fantasizes about a Utopian future living on a beach in Mexico. Sarah is drawn into his dream world as she rebels against cultural expectations. Time is irrelevant as the two escape from the restraints and routine of everyday life. Pearl, an elderly woman from a neighboring island, intrudes on the couples escapist existence. Pearl challenges Evan's delusional idealism, confronts the couples anti-social lifestyle, and encourages Sarah to return home to a more traditional life. Feeling threatened, Evan's dark side emerges and Sarah begins to suspect that the situation is increasingly more insidious and dangerous, causing her to doubt their relationship. Sarah slowly withdraws, propelling Evan into deep dispair. Deeply in love and unable to cope, Evan embarks on a nihilistic journey both selfless and haunting.
