Whisper Not Jazz is a trio led by trombonist John Warkentin, a professional musician with over 25 years experience in a surprising range of musical contexts from the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra to Tom Phillips and His Men of Constant Sorrow.
Whisper Not Jazz, consisting of John on trombone, Keith Smith on guitar (or Tricia Edwards on piano), and Simon Fisk on bass, plays a sophisticated blend of jazz, latin and pop. Over the past seven years, the group has performed for organizations and events such as the Calgary International Film Festival, City Palate Magazine, Mount Royal College, and McNally Robinson Booksellers. Clients have been consistent in their praise for the groups musicianship and professionalism. One comment that reoccurs is how surprising it is to hear a trombone played so beautifully. Whether elegantly interpreting a Lennon/McCartney ballad or swinging like Sinatra, Whisper Not Jazz will surprise.
