New Zealand, an island country in the South Pacific Ocean about 1,200 miles (1,930 km) southeast of Australia and almost at the opposite point of Great Britain. That's Where is New Zealand is. New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga are its closest neighbors to the north. Most settlers were British since it became under British sovereignty in 1840. The colony then gained 1st New Zealand Parliament sometime in 1854. In the year 1856 New Zealand became self-governing. The head of state is the governor general who is appointed by the British monarch on the advice of the New Zealand cabinet. New Zealander has produced a distinctive society, in which the middle-class ways is predominant and has a high regard on equality.
