rabblelab
The initiators of raw, have decided to set up a company/partnership in Swaziland to address the growing requests and commissions there and in South Africa. The concern will be called rabblelab, [www.rabblelab.com] and is going to take the raw way a step further.
raw is non-profit and has a strict community-driven, materials-based ethos - the foundation is transparent and uses subsidies, grants and other sources of public funding to finance the projects done. Raw is registered in the Netherlands as a 'stichting', while Rabblelab is registered in Swaziland, as a partnership/company.Raw depends on much volunteered time.
rabblelab, though strongly influenced by raw, is more a design/build workshop and studio. Rabblelab gets paid to design, develop, innovate and build and generates income for those involved. Rabblelab, though only beginning, has already got plans for workshop/studio combined with bar/lounge.Raw's concentration on the application and use of alternative materials, will be enhanced
in Rabblelab with a strong environmental and energetics approach. Through paid commissions, the work done will be of a higher spec and finish, and allow the raw crew to experiment with more commercial and mainstream clients and projects. Raw will remain the builder for the NGO's.
Also, raw, in the meantime, back in Europe, will remain registered in Amsterdam, while mainly hitting the road, in the form of the mobsta project -nomadic living. In a sense, the more 'stable' activities will rotate about rabblelab in Swaziland, with raw pulled in for various actions, while the euro-raw will become mobile; a swithcing of roles, as it were. The mobsta project aims to create a caravan of creative, low-impact, DIY folk while travelling about europe and eventually head south to join rabblelab in Southern Africa.
Through Rabblelab, the initiators of raw are allowing themselves to live the raw way while still remaining committed to the foundation's original charitable venture. Raw work will continue, and there will be overlap, but surely this convergence of lifestyle, income and mission should result in an all-round better and happier junkiefied world.
