About the artist~
Painting oil on canvas I am drawn to landscapes. I am interested in where the sky meets the land. It began with an intimate sense of place growing up here in Washington state. I spent many summers driving across the state from the Puget Sound through the mountain passes into the desert. I am particularly inspired by the basalt cliffs, beautiful lakes and wide open spaces of Coulee City, WA. I graduated from The Evergreen State College in 1999 where I focused on painting, scenic design, and shadow puppetry. My paintings reflect an outdoor theatre through the play of light and shadow. I am fascinated by the changes a place undergoes in color, season, and through the passage of time. My hope is to convey that emotion and connection with the land. I am influenced by works of artists Frida Kahlo, Mary Cassatt, Andrew Wyeth, John William Waterhouse, and Claude Monet. I am inspired by my family, especially my husband Chris and sons Cooper and Oliver.
