The Halifax Learning Centre is located at 6389 Coburg Road across the street from Dalhousie University. The website details information on the Kaplan SpellRead program. The Kaplan SpellRead program eliminates a reading problem. SpellRead focuses on developing students phonological automaticity, as well as lifelong comprehension skills. The program is science-based and results-driven. Phonemic and phonetic activities form the foundation of SpellRead and are combined with leveled readers and authentic, language-rich books. The Kaplan SpellRead approach ensures that a students reading and writing skills become as developed and automatic as their verbal abilities. The Halifax Learning Centre offers the Kaplan SpellRead program for children, university students, adults and referral partners. Many of our students are referred by a psychologist after a psycho-educational assessment and if a student presents with a learning disability like dyslexia. The Kaplan SpellRead program at the Halifax Learning Centre makes a significant change in a persons reading, spelling, writing, comprehension and vocabulary skills closing the reading gap and enhancing grades. The program can be used as remediation, intervention and for tutoring and works across all age groups. The program is also used for English as a second language and French-immersion students.
