Home page of John E. Bower. Dr. John Bower, Ph.D., is a musician and composer of contemporary
classical music for acoustic instruments, electronics, and combinations of the two. With a sensitivity for timbre,
resonance, and harmonic inflection, Bower's language speaks with a salient lyricism balanced by visceral, phrenetic
polyphony.
Selected compositions include: The Echo Over the Voice, a chamber concerto for solo viola, chamber ensemble, and
interactive electronics; The Raven Luminescence for solo piano; Scenes/Duos for flute and viola; Three Reminder for the
Architect, a concert etude for piano and two percussionists after Le Corbusier; soundSense, an interactive media
installation; Preliminary Hearing for solo guitar; The Assuaging of the Waters for large orchestra; Oswenka, a mixed-media
installation in collaboration with photographer TJ Lemon; ombres d'un reflet, for digital media.
Bower's academic work involves such diverse areas as critical theory and globalization along with virtual reality and
data sonification.
