Katrina Roeckelein (Trinka) is a sculptor working primarily in clay. After receiving her MFA in design, she established her career as a graphic designer in film, video and print for the Associated Press, various post-production houses in the Washington DC area and worldwide publishers like DK Publishing and Orchard Books. Gradually her creative tool evolved from the computer to clay. She naturally embraced the 3-D component and transitioned from a commercial to fine artist. Trinka creates both indoor and outdoor sculptures, most of which contain a realistic interpretation of the human form or a portion of the male or female body. She often adds an archetypal symbol derived from myth or her subconscious to the figurative piece. By using different glazes and firing processes she is able to achieve a myriad of surface treatments on the completed pieces. She also sculpts animals and produces functional birdhouses. Her artwork is seen in several venues and private collections. She welcomes commissioned projects.
