Based in Chestertown, Maryland, Kelly Castro enjoys creating inexplicable scenarios with very small objects. Starting in 2006, she discovered that thimbles and figurines could be as compelling as human models; plus they never need coffee breaks and work for free. She believes we create our toys in our own image, which is why the photographs, for all their weirdness, are so easy to relate to. Her background as a writer and her voracious reading habit, informs the dramatic content of the images she creates; thus her photographs are naturals for pairing with the written word. Kelly received her Masters in Fine Arts degree in writing from Spalding University, Louisville, KY, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD.
