Annie Wells Photography
Annie Wells won a Pulitzer Prize for Spot News photography in 1997 for a dramatic photo of a firefighter saving a drowning girl. She has worked as a photojournalist for over 20 years, until 2008 at the Los Angeles Times and before that at The Press Democrat in Santa Rosa, CA. She is now co-producing a documentary film called "From an Arm’s Length", which focuses on pictures she took of herself while she was in treatment for breast cancer. Other awards include the Ruben Salazar Award for Photography, The Robert F Kennedy Journalism Award and the Inter American Press Association Award for Photography. Her work has been recognized in gallery exhibitions and book projects including “Game Face: What Does a Female Athlete Look Like?” and “Turning Heads: Portraits of Grace, Inspiration, and Possibilities,” portraits of bald women with breast cancer in the midst of chemotherapy. Her work is in the permanent collection of The National Museum for Women in the Arts and is archived at her Alma Mater, the University of California Santa Cruz where she hold a BA in Science Writing. Wells is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity at Claremont School of Theology.
