Currently, the company is working on a feature documentary in Dothan, Alabama and the Wiregrass area. The film does not yet have a release date, but the projected release is the end of summer 2010. The purpose of the documentary is to help save and enhance the arts in the city of Dothan, the state of Alabama, and ultimately the nation.
The films story is told from the point of view of a local dance choreographer, Patti Simpson, and her critically acclaimed dance company Patti Rutland Jazz. It tells the dramatic story of Mrs. Patti and how all of her lifes successes and struggles lead to the formation of the company. It eventually tells of her vision for providing free or affordable art programs for all children.
The film incorporates many artists who live or have lived in the Wiregrass area. Each artist gives a unique perspective on the world and the arts. For each artist in the film, the audience will receive a new look at the importance of art for our lives, especially in the lives of children.
